The visitation church receives the second half of the two-part founding name. After the Lord's ascension the disciples baptize, and 'they who were baptized in the name of Jesus were called the church of Christ' (3 Nephi 26:21) -- reasserting the double name given at the waters of Mormon generations earlier, 'they were called the church of God, or the church of Christ' (Mosiah 18:17). As a proper name for the covenant body, 'church of Christ' occurs at exactly seven loci corpus-wide: the founding (Mosiah 18:17), the re-forming under the twelve (3 Nephi 26:21), the three Nephites' commission ('united unto the church of Christ,' 3 Nephi 28:23), three 4 Nephi legs — the golden-age church 'in all the lands round about' (4 Nephi 1:1) and the apostates who 'deny' and 'persecute the true church of Christ' (1:26, 1:29) — and the church-order rubric's membership sentence, 'numbered among the people of the church of Christ' (Moroni 6:4). The paired half of the name, 'church of God,' is the label carried through Mosiah-Alma (this page passim). The membership formula joining the name -- 'take upon them the name of Christ, or of God' (Mosiah 25:23) -- is the take-the-name covenant the Lord cites at 27:5 (see 3ne-church-take-name-scriptures).
