At Bountiful the risen Lord claims as his own the 'one fold and one shepherd' formula Nephi had spoken as the close of his gathering oracle (1 Ne 22:25). 3 Ne 15:21 prefaces the clause 'ye are they of whom I said', expressly naming the Nephites as the 'other sheep' of the saying. The shared clause is word-for-word identical but for a single comma. The comma'd clause stands twice in the discourse -- 15:17 and again at 15:21; 3 Ne 16:3 carries the modal variant 'that there may be one fold and one shepherd', there stretched to a further flock -- the tribes 'led away out of the land' (15:15; 16:1-3). The text glosses its own audience's misreading: the disciples 'understood me not, for they supposed it had been the Gentiles' (15:22-23). The Old-World form is John 10:16 ('other sheep I have, which are not of this fold … there shall be one fold, and one shepherd'), frozen in the corpus as New Testament canon. Distribution: 'one fold' occurs at four record verses (1 Nephi 22:25; 3 Nephi 15:17, 15:21, 16:3) and, corpus-wide, at John 10:16 (five in all).
