The divine-voice leg of the sure-foundation chain (see hel-jac-sure-foundation, Helaman 5:12 to Jacob 4:16, hosted on jacob-lehison.md). The build/rock/foundation figure Jacob minted as an oracle (the rejected stone that becomes 'the only sure foundation,' Jacob 4:16, repeated 4:17) is spoken at Bountiful by its subject: Helaman had named the rock 'our Redeemer, who is Christ' (Helaman 5:12), and the Redeemer now claims it in the first person, 'buildeth upon my rock' (3 Nephi 11:39), with its negative 'a sandy foundation' at 3 Nephi 11:40. Shared spine is the build/rock figure plus the referent (the rock IS Christ, Helaman 5:12, now speaking as I), NOT the exact phrase 'sure foundation' — that expansion stays unique to Jacob 4:16-17 and Helaman 5:12; the 3 Nephi legs read 'my rock' and 'sandy foundation,' never 'sure foundation' ('sure foundation' stands at three record verses — Jacob 4:16, Jacob 4:17, Helaman 5:12 — and, corpus-wide, at Isaiah 28:16, the frozen source oracle behind Jacob's minting). The figure is restated twice more within the visitation — the wise man who built his house upon a rock against rain/floods/winds (3 Nephi 14:24-27) and the sacrament-covenant 'ye are built upon my rock' (3 Nephi 18:12-13), each carrying the storm-beats-the-house structure of Helaman 5:12 ('mighty winds … hail and … mighty storm') — but those two restatements are hosted on sermon-at-the-temple.md, not duplicated here. The 'gates of hell' clause on the figure at Bountiful (3 Nephi 11:39, 11:40, 18:13; compare Matthew 16:18) has no in-corpus parallel. This record's home page is Jacob son of Lehi; 3 Nephi's own king Jacob (7:9-13) and cities Jacob/Jacobugath (9:8-9) are unrelated and never linked here.
