The reign-of-the-judges' own sentencing formula, now turned on the corrupt bench itself. Mosiah's letter defined lawful punishment as 'according to the crime which he has committed, according to the law which has been given to us by our fathers' (29:15); the same formula ran the Nehor trial ('judged according to the crimes which he had committed', Alma 1:10; 'condemned to die, according to the law which has been given us by Mosiah', Alma 1:14) and concentrated in the post-coup reckoning ('according to the law' x3 in Alma 62:9-10). At 3 Nephi 6:26 the judges who secretly executed the prophets (6:23) are themselves 'taken and brought up before the judge, to be judged of the crime which they had done, according to the law which had been given by the people' -- the constitution applied against the officers who broke it. The distinctive frame shared with Mosiah 29:15 is the crime-according-to-the-law sentencing formula (6:26 'the crime which they had done', 29:15 'the crime which he has committed'); 'the law which had been given by the people' is the voice-of-the-people frame (Mosiah 29:25, 'the laws which have been given you by our fathers').
