The nine-word clause 'plates which I have made with mine own hands' occurs at exactly two corpus verses: 1 Nephi 1:17 (Nephi opening the small plates) and 3 Nephi 5:11 (Mormon introducing his own abridgment). The record's two self-certifying record-makers describe their plates in the same words, nearly a thousand years apart in the narrative's own chronology. Both verses also pair the clause with an abridgment claim (1:17 'I make an abridgment of the record of my father'; 5:11 follows 5:9-10's account-abridgment frame).
