Giddianhi, writing to the governor as 'the governor of this the secret society of Gadianton', describes the society and its works as 'good… of ancient date and… handed down unto us'. The verbal contact is the transmission verb plus the antiquity claim: Helaman 6:30 says the devil 'doth hand down their plots, and their oaths, and their covenants… from generation to generation', and 6:29 that 'he has brought it forth from the beginning of man'. The robber-governor thus describes, from inside the order, exactly the hand-me-down transmission the Helaman narrator had attributed to 'the author of all sin' (6:30) — but reverses the valuation ('good' versus 'works of darkness'). That valuation-reversal is an interpretive (weigh-this) reading; the verbal contact itself (hand down / handed down; of ancient date / from generation to generation) is the textual ground registered here.
