4 Nephi 1:16 · 2 Nephi 5:27
This connection's citations are checked against the source text.
The mark sits beside every quote a connection carries. It reports one thing: those words were found in the frozen source text at the reference this page cites, allowing only typographic differences such as curly quotes, dash forms and spacing.
It is not a tier signal, and it is not a judgment about the connection. Where a card carries the Interpretive badge, the reading is still offered with its evidence for you to weigh — the mark speaks only to the citations.
The badges and the mark are separate signals: Textual and Interpretive name the kind of claim a connection makes, while the mark reports that the connection's citations were checked.
Interpretive bracket / inclusio: the Nephite record frames its arc of national happiness with superlative language at two high points. At the founding of the Nephite colony under Nephi -- after they separate, build a temple, and become 'the people of Nephi' -- 'we lived after the manner of happiness' (2 Nephi 5:27). At the post-resurrection golden age, when the whole land is converted and undivided, 'surely there could not be a happier people among all the people who had been created by the hand of God' (4 Nephi 1:16). The wiki reads these as a bracket framing the Nephite story between two realized-happiness moments -- a structural, interpretive reading: the two verses are separated by the entire corpus, use different phrasing ('manner of happiness' vs. 'happier people'), and neither is marked as an echo of the other. Anti-exclusivity hedge: superlative happiness-language also appears mid-arc -- Alma 50:23, 'there never was a happier time among the people of Nephi… than in the days of Moroni' -- so this is a reader's framing, not a two-point exclusivity claim. Distribution: 'manner of happiness' occurs only at 2 Nephi 5:27; the exact phrase 'a happier people' occurs only at 4 Nephi 1:16 (the word 'happier' also occurs at Alma 50:23, 'happier time'). 4 Nephi 1:16 is quoted only for its happiness clause, without expansion into the 4 Nephi 1:10 / 1:17 delightsome-and--ites material or the 2 Nephi 5:21-25 curse.
