4 Nephi 1:44 · 3 Nephi 28:9
This connection's citations are checked against the source text.
The mark sits beside every quote a connection carries. It reports one thing: those words were found in the frozen source text at the reference this page cites, allowing only typographic differences such as curly quotes, dash forms and spacing.
It is not a tier signal, and it is not a judgment about the connection. Where a card carries the Interpretive badge, the reading is still offered with its evidence for you to weigh — the mark speaks only to the citations.
The badges and the mark are separate signals: Textual and Interpretive name the kind of claim a connection makes, while the mark reports that the connection's citations were checked.
The one sorrow the three were allowed, realized. They were promised they would feel no sorrow 'save it be for the sins of the world' (3 Nephi 28:9; restated at 28:38 'save it were for the sins of the world'); at 4 Nephi 1:44, as the converted society decays, 'the disciples began to sorrow for the sins of the world' — the single grief the promise had permitted. The exact string 'for the sins of the world' occurs at ten verses in the record (and nowhere outside it), but only three join it to sorrow -- all three-Nephites material (4 Nephi 1:44; 3 Nephi 28:9; 3 Nephi 28:38). Everywhere else the string concerns Christ atoning for / taking away the sins of the world, not a disciple's sorrow. Not whole-clause verbatim: the contiguous shared string is 'for the sins of the world' — in 28:9 'save it be' sits between 'sorrow' and 'for the sins of the world'.
