The seven-word string 'take upon them the name of Christ' occurs at exactly Alma 46:21 and Mosiah 25:23 in the record; every other occurrence of the take-the-name formula varies the pronoun, the tense, or the name taken — 'take upon you' (Mosiah 5:8; 2 Nephi 31:13; Alma 34:38; 3 Nephi 27:5; Mormon 8:38; and, added 2026-08-10 at the D&C freeze, D&C 18:21, 'Take upon you the name of Christ, and speak the truth in soberness'), 'take upon him' (Mosiah 5:10), 'take upon us' (Alma 46:18), the narrated took-upon-them and taken-upon-themselves forms (Mosiah 6:2; Alma 1:19, 24:1, 46:15, 51:6; Helaman 11:24; 4 Nephi 1:20; Moroni 6:3), and Moroni 4:3, which keeps the pronoun and present tense but changes the object ('take upon them the name of thy Son'). Mosiah 25:12 is the same formula with a different name entirely ('took upon themselves the name of Nephi'), not a name-of-Christ variant. At 25:23 taking the name is the entrance into the churches; at 46:21 being ashamed to take it is the covenant's named failure-condition.
