Helaman 14:18 · Alma 12:16
This connection's citations are checked against the source text.
The mark sits beside every quote a connection carries. It reports one thing: those words were found in the frozen source text at the reference this page cites, allowing only typographic differences such as curly quotes, dash forms and spacing.
It is not a tier signal, and it is not a judgment about the connection. Where a card carries the Interpretive badge, the reading is still offered with its evidence for you to weigh — the mark speaks only to the citations.
The badges and the mark are separate signals: Textual and Interpretive name the kind of claim a connection makes, while the mark reports that the connection's citations were checked.
Samuel the Lamanite teaches the Ammonihah two-deaths doctrine in Alma's own terms. Three distinctive elements coincide in this single-verse pair: 'second death,' 'spiritual death,' and the closing pertaining-to-righteousness clause ('things pertaining unto righteousness', Alma 12:16 and 12:32; 'things pertaining to righteousness', Helaman 14:18). Disclose the spans: Samuel's exposition runs Helaman 14:15-19 (14:16 names 'the first death—that spiritual death' and 'by the fall of Adam being cut off from the presence of the Lord'); Alma's runs Alma 12:16 and 12:32, the latter carrying the 'things pertaining unto righteousness' clause verbatim ('a second death, which was an everlasting death as to things pertaining unto righteousness'). The clause (in its unto/to forms above) carries the second death in all three of these verses; it appears twice more in the corpus in other senses: Alma 5:42 (the wicked man's wages, 'death, as to things pertaining unto righteousness') and Helaman 11:19 (positive, of Lehi son of Helaman).
