Mosiah's kingship letter built its own failure clause into the law: if the voice of the people 'doth choose iniquity,' divine judgment follows (Mosiah 29:27). Helaman 5:2 narrates that condition as met in the letter's own three terms — the same franchise ('their laws and their governments were established by the voice of the people'), the same wrong choice ('they who chose evil were more numerous than they who chose good'), and the same consequence ('therefore they were ripening for destruction, for the laws had become corrupted'). The clause that defined the order's limit is reported as reached.
