Internal pair: Mormon's editorial curse-doctrine (12:18-19, the Lord may curse a hidden treasure so 'no man getteth it henceforth and forever') and Samuel's prophecy (13:31, cursed riches 'become slippery, that ye cannot hold them') state the same law -- the Lord makes ill-gotten hidden wealth impossible to retain. Samuel's lament dramatizes it: 'we have hid up our treasures and they have slipped away from us' (13:35), 'we lay a tool here and on the morrow it is gone' (13:34). The word 'slippery' occurs at four verses in the record (Helaman 13:31, 13:33, 13:36, and Mormon 1:18); corpus-wide the frozen Old Testament adds Jeremiah 23:12, Psalms 35:6, and 73:18 (seven corpus). The doctrine carries an exemption (13:18): treasures hidden 'unto the Lord' by a righteous man are not cursed -- so the curse falls on the motive (riches hoarded, not consecrated), echoing Jacob's rule and the hearts-upon-riches frame.
