Helaman 3:29 · 1 Nephi 15:24
This connection's citations are checked against the source text.
The mark sits beside every quote a connection carries. It reports one thing: those words were found in the frozen source text at the reference this page cites, allowing only typographic differences such as curly quotes, dash forms and spacing.
It is not a tier signal, and it is not a judgment about the connection. Where a card carries the Interpretive badge, the reading is still offered with its evidence for you to weigh — the mark speaks only to the citations.
The badges and the mark are separate signals: Textual and Interpretive name the kind of claim a connection makes, while the mark reports that the connection's citations were checked.
Mormon's editorial exhortation (Helaman 3:29-30) restates Nephi's rod-of-iron gloss (1 Nephi 15:24) in martial vocabulary. Three doctrinal elements coincide: (1) the object gripped is 'the word of God' in both; (2) a grip verb -- 'lay hold upon' (Hel) / 'hold fast unto' (1 Ne); (3) the devil's weapons defeated -- 'divide asunder all the cunning and the snares and the wiles of the devil' (Hel) recasts 'the temptations and the fiery darts of the adversary' could not 'overpower them' (1 Ne). Both set the result in a path framework: Helaman's 'strait and narrow course' vs the dream-rod that 'led … to the tree of life' (1 Nephi 11:25). This is paraphrase, not quotation -- no contiguous verbatim string crosses the two verses; the shared content is doctrinal. DICTION FACT, re-derived from raw 2026-08-10 at the D&C freeze (the earlier statement of it, that the comma-less form was unique to Helaman 3:29 in the whole corpus, no longer holds): the comma-less 'quick and powerful' stands at seven corpus verses — Helaman 3:29 and six Doctrine and Covenants revelation-openings, D&C 6:2, 11:2, 12:2, 14:2, 27:1, 33:1, of which five also join it to 'dividing asunder' and to the Lord's word. Hebrews 4:12's 'quick, and powerful' has been a frozen corpus text since the New-Testament freeze and is the registered far end of heb-w1-09. SECOND CONTACT (page prose, not a separate record): Helaman 3:29's 'everlasting gulf of misery' echoes 1 Nephi 15:28's 'an awful gulf, which separated the wicked from the tree of life' -- both a gulf that divides/engulfs the wicked, FUNCTIONAL not verbal. The exact phrase 'gulf of misery' does NOT occur at 1 Nephi 15:28 (which reads only 'awful gulf'); its closer verbatim relatives are 2 Nephi 1:13 ('eternal gulf of misery and woe') and Helaman 5:12 ('gulf of misery and endless wo') -- both outside this assigned pair (log). Cross-link narrative-voice.md (the exhortation is Mormon's own editorial voice, a 'thus we see' close to Helaman 3:27-30).
