The text's own stated cause and nothing more: Mormon 5:15 says this people 'shall become a dark, a filthy, and a loathsome people … because of their unbelief and idolatry.' 4 Ne 1:10 records the height ('an exceedingly fair and delightsome people'); Mormon 5:17 marks the reversal ('They were once a delightsome people … led even by God the Father'). 'delightsome people' recurs across the corpus (2 Ne 30:6-7; 4 Ne 1:10; Mormon 5:17; WoM 1:8; Moroni 9:12), so the binding contact is the reversal-ARC (a people once delightsome who fell), NOT the phrase.
