At the first appearing the risen Lord 'touched with his hand the disciples whom he had chosen, one by one… and spake unto them as he touched them' (3 Nephi 18:36), but the 3 Nephi record WITHHOLDS the words: 'the multitude heard not the words which he spake, therefore they did not bear record; but the disciples bare record that he gave them power to give the Holy Ghost. And I will show unto you hereafter that this record is true' (3 Nephi 18:37). Moroni 2 supplies the withheld words. The two verses name the same event (conferral of the power to give the Holy Ghost, by laying on of hands, at the first appearing) and share the verbatim contact 'power' + 'give the Holy Ghost' (18:37 'power to give the Holy Ghost'; 2:2 'power that… ye shall give the Holy Ghost; and in my name shall ye give it'), plus the same heard-it-not frame -- 18:37 'the multitude heard not the words which he spake'; Moroni 2:3 'the multitude heard it not, but the disciples heard it'. The type is shared-phrasing, on that contact plus the shared referent. The bare facts -- 18:37's promise 'I will show unto you hereafter that this record is true', the withheld-then-supplied conferral words, the shared heard-it-not frame -- are all TEXTUAL and carried in this record and page prose. But the claim that Moroni 2 IS the deferred 'hereafter' showing / fulfilment of 18:37's promise is an INFERENCE (neither text names the other), so it is a separate hedged interpretive reading, NOT asserted in this textual record.
