Alma's founding rule for priest self-support reappears nearly verbatim in the regulations under Mosiah's proclamation - extended to teachers, with the one exception 'save it were in sickness, or in much want' (27:5); 27:4 generalizes the same clause ('laboring with their own hands for their support') to every man. The phrase 'labor with their own hands' occurs in the corpus at exactly three verses (recounted 2026-08-10 at the D&C freeze) — 18:24, 27:5, and D&C 52:39, which states the same self-support rule for the elders: 'labor with their own hands that there be no idolatry nor wickedness practiced'.
