The label 'great and abominable church' is the text's consistent designation for the church of the devil across chs. 13-22. 14:9: 'Look, and behold that great and abominable church, which is the mother of abominations, whose founder is the devil.' 22:14: 'that great and abominable church, shall tumble to the dust and great shall be the fall of it.' The phrase also appears in 1 Nephi at 13:6, 13:8, 13:26, 13:28, 14:3, 14:15, 14:17, and 22:13 — ten 1-Nephi verse-lines counting the two anchors, and the same label recurs at 2 Nephi 6:12 and 28:18 — twelve record verses in all, and, disclosed 2026-08-10 at the D&C freeze, a thirteenth corpus carrier outside the record at D&C 29:21, which fuses the two titles this note keeps apart: 'the great and abominable church, which is the whore of all the earth' — the record anchors on the verse that identifies the founder (14:9) and the verse that announces the end (22:14). Note: the formal two-church binary definition is at 14:10 ('there are save two churches only'), which uses 'that great church' rather than the full label.
