The mark sits beside every quote a connection carries. It reports one thing: those words were found in the frozen source text at the reference this page cites, allowing only typographic differences such as curly quotes, dash forms and spacing.

Two divergences carry weight: the gospel reads 'the sons of God' where the revelation reads 'my sons' (the same substitution appears at D&C 42:52), and the revelation doubles the clause, stating it once in the past and once in the future.
