3 Nephi 20:16 · Micah 5:8
This connection's citations are checked against the source text.
The mark sits beside every quote a connection carries. It reports one thing: those words were found in the frozen source text at the reference this page cites, allowing only typographic differences such as curly quotes, dash forms and spacing.
It is not a tier signal, and it is not a judgment about the connection. Where a card carries the Interpretive badge, the reading is still offered with its evidence for you to weigh — the mark speaks only to the citations.
The badges and the mark are separate signals: Textual and Interpretive name the kind of claim a connection makes, while the mark reports that the connection's citations were checked.
The first of the Bountiful discourse's two statements of the lion figure. The correspondence is a six-clause run, not a single simile: lion among the beasts of the forest / young lion among the flocks of sheep / if he go(eth) through / treadeth down / teareth in pieces / none can deliver. COUNTS (rule: distinct frozen verses in the corpus per R2-Q36; comma-tolerant per R2-Q32): 'none can deliver' stands at exactly three corpus verses -- 3 Nephi 20:16, 3 Nephi 21:12, Micah 5:8; 'as a young lion' at five -- those three plus Hosea 5:14 and Numbers 23:24; the bare simile 'as a lion' at fifteen, common Old-Testament diction. The binding contact is therefore the whole figure, not the simile. DIVERGENCES, as textual facts: 20:16 reads 'if he goeth through' where Micah 5:8 reads 'if he go through'; 20:16 addresses the remnant in the second person ('Then shall ye, who are a remnant of the house of Jacob'), Micah speaks of it in the third ('the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people'); and where Micah reads 'shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people' contiguously, 20:16 leaves the Gentiles unnamed at that point (their antecedent stands one verse earlier at 20:15) and separates the clauses -- 'go forth among them; and ye shall be in the midst of them who shall be many'. ATTRIBUTION -- UNATTRIBUTED: the record never names Micah at any point, and the discourse frames this material as the Father's own covenant declaration rather than as a prophetic citation (contrast the Isaiah of the same discourse, which the Lord flags by name at 3 Nephi 16:17). This record asserts the verbal correspondence ONLY. Whether these words are a QUOTATION of Micah is left open and weighed in the page's interpretive callout, never asserted -- the 2026-07-03 ruling's basis still governs the class; what changed on 2026-07-26 is that Sam retired Micah from the comparanda class by name, making it an ordinary frozen-canon endpoint. asserted_by is absent (= wiki): the source asserts nothing here. Companions: 3ne-cov-micah-lion-21-12 (the discourse's second, closer statement), morm-cov-lion-among-gentiles (Mormon 5:24's re-use of the image as a Gentile warning).
