4 Nephi's generation-clock read against Christ's fourth-generation prophecy. 4 Nephi times its golden age by generations: 'the first generation from Christ had passed away' at 110 years (4 Nephi 1:18), and 'the second generation had all passed away save it were a few' at 200 years (4 Nephi 1:22) -- the same span in which pride first appears (1:24, 'in this two hundred and first year there began to be among them those who were lifted up in pride'). Christ had foretold that the fall would land on 'the fourth generation from this generation' (3 Nephi 27:32, who 'will sell me for silver and for gold'). The textual facts are the 4 Nephi generation-datings and the 3 Nephi 27:32 prophecy; the READING -- that 4 Nephi's clock is narrating the fulfillment-track of that fourth-generation prophecy -- is interpretive, because 4 Nephi never explicitly numbers a 'fourth generation' nor cites 27:32, and its clock runs on past the second generation into undated decline.
