The editor's first person surfaces once in 4 Nephi's otherwise third-person annal. 4 Nephi is narrated as a compressed year-clock kept by Nephi, Amos, Amos, and Ammaron (4 Nephi 1:19-21, 1:47-48); at 1:23 the abridging voice breaks the surface -- 'And now I, Mormon, would that ye should know…' -- the same self-identified editor named at 3 Nephi 5:12 ('I am called Mormon'). The phrase 'I, Mormon' is NOT distinctive phrasing -- it recurs across the corpus (Words of Mormon 1:1, 1:9; 3 Nephi 26:12; 28:24; and throughout the Mormon book, e.g. Mormon 1:1, 1:5, 2:12, 3:11). The link is therefore a voice/editorial-presence parallel, not a phrasing match. Do not conflate the narrator Mormon with his father (also named Mormon, Mormon 1:5) or with the land of Mormon.
