Sherem's own mouth uses Nephi's label, glossing it as equivalent to 'the gospel'. The narrator states Sherem's target at Jacob 7:2: 'that he might overthrow the doctrine of Christ.' Full RECORD occurrence list (grep): 2 Nephi 31:2, 31:21, 32:6; Jacob 7:2, 7:6; 3 Nephi 2:2. Re-scoped 2026-08-10 at the D&C freeze, which corrected a pre-existing error rather than adding one: the list was labelled corpus-wide but is the record's. Corpus-wide the label also stands at 2 John 1:9 and Hebrews 6:1 — eight verses in all — and once in plate-original header text, the Jacob superscription's second paragraph ('He confoundeth a man who seeketh to overthrow the doctrine of Christ'), which is quotable canon but outside the verse counts. The D&C adds no carrier. Outside 2 Nephi 31-32 the label appears only in the Jacob 7 pair (Sherem glossing it as 'the gospel') and the narrator's 3 Nephi 2:2 (an apostate generation dismissing it as 'a foolish and a vain thing').
