The plural 'broken hearts and contrite spirits' stands at exactly two corpus verses, Mormon 2:14 and D&C 20:37 ('come forth with broken hearts and contrite spirits', the church's baptism-qualification, a context close to 3 Ne 9:20's). The singular 'a broken heart and a contrite spirit' occurs at exactly six verses (2 Ne 2:7, 3 Ne 9:20, 3 Ne 12:19, Ether 4:15, Moroni 6:2, D&C 59:8); both recounted 2026-08-10 at the D&C freeze. The plural remains a distinct form, not an instance of the singular, but it is no longer unique to Mormon 2:14, so the form-distinction no longer isolates this verse by itself. Inversion: in 3 Ne 9:20 the risen Lord names the required offering, 'whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit'; Mormon 2:14 records the failed generation who 'did not come unto Jesus with broken hearts and contrite spirits, but they did curse God, and wish to die.' Mormon 2:13 supplies the corpus-unique diagnosis 'the sorrowing of the damned' (Morm 2:13 only), his gloss that their sorrow 'was not unto repentance'.
