The divine-constancy shadow-image occurs at exactly four verses corpus-wide since the New-Testament freeze: 'shadow of turning' at Alma 7:20 and James 1:17; 'shadow of changing' only at Mormon 9:9 and 9:10 — Alma 7:20 is the sole Book of Mormon carrier outside Mormon 9, which makes it the non-arbitrary in-corpus far end. Reinforced by the vary/variableness cognate (Alma 7:20 'neither doth he vary'; Morm 9:9 'no variableness' / 9:10 'a god who doth vary'); 'variableness' stands at exactly two corpus verses since the freeze: Morm 9:9 and James 1:17. James 1:17 ('no variableness, neither shadow of turning') carries the same noun-plus-image pair; the pairing with the epistle is the wiki's — registered as ph3m-variableness-james (hosted unchangeable-god.md) — and the origin of the correspondence is out of scope in both directions. The turning/changing difference is a reportable variant, not a match failure. An alternative far end considered and declined: 1 Ne 10:18 'the same yesterday, today, and forever' — verbatim, but that phrase is an 8-verse refrain (1 Ne 10:18; 2 Ne 2:4 — 'the same, yesterday' with a comma, and of the Spirit; 2 Ne 27:23, 29:9; Alma 31:17; Morm 9:9; Moroni 10:19; and D&C 20:12, 'the same God yesterday, today, and forever' — recounted 2026-08-10 at the D&C freeze), so pairing one instance is arbitrary, the more so for the eighth carrier; disclosed rather than registered (note 2 Ne 27:23 and 29:9 pair it with 'God of miracles,' Mormon 9's own theme). The vary/variableness counts above are unmoved by the D&C freeze (zero D&C carriers of either shadow-phrase or of 'variableness'), but the cognate clause quoted from Alma 7:20 has a further corpus carrier: D&C 3:2 reads 'neither doth he vary from that which he hath said'. No count in this note attaches to that clause; disclosed 2026-08-10 as the nearest new corpus neighbour to the constancy image. Morm 9:19 restates the doctrine as a limit on omnipotence: 'he changeth not; if so he would cease to be God'. The book of Moroni also restates the doctrine (Moroni 7:22; 8:18; 10:7, 19).
