The distinctive phrase linking divine command to human capacity recurs at the open and close of the wilderness section. 3:7 (Nephi's resolve before the brass-plates errand): 'the Lord giveth no commandments … save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.' 17:3 (Nephi's narrative gloss on the completed wilderness journey): 'he doth nourish them … and provide means whereby they can accomplish the thing which he has commanded them'. The phrasing differs only in tense ('commandeth' vs 'has commanded'); the shared frame — 3:7 'accomplish the thing which he commandeth them', 17:3 'accomplish the thing which he has commanded them' — is not stock idiom, making the recurrence distinctive.
