1 Nephi 14:11 · Revelation 17:1
This connection's citations are checked against the source text.
The mark sits beside every quote a connection carries. It reports one thing: those words were found in the frozen source text at the reference this page cites, allowing only typographic differences such as curly quotes, dash forms and spacing.
It is not a tier signal, and it is not a judgment about the connection. Where a card carries the Interpretive badge, the reading is still offered with its evidence for you to weigh — the mark speaks only to the citations.
The badges and the mark are separate signals: Textual and Interpretive name the kind of claim a connection makes, while the mark reports that the connection's citations were checked.
Both texts seat a whore-figure upon many waters. 'many waters' alone is common in the corpus (28 verses, recounted 2026-08-10 at the D&C freeze, including Psalms, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Song of Solomon), and the conjunction of the figure with the seat is no longer confined to the pair either: 'sat upon many waters' stands at 1 Nephi 14:11 and 14:12; 'sitteth upon many waters' at Revelation 17:1 and D&C 88:94, which reads 'she who sitteth upon many waters' of 'That great church, the mother of abominations' — carrying both the seat-formula and the mother-of-abominations title this record treats as the 1 Nephi 14:9 distinctive. The shared seating at the two registered ends is unchanged as a textual fact; the exclusivity that made it distinctive is withdrawn. Variants reported, not scored: the Book of Mormon title is 'the whore of all the earth' (1 Nephi 14:10, 14:11, 22:13; 2 Nephi 10:16, 28:18), Revelation's is 'the great whore' (17:1, 19:2); the Book of Mormon also uses 'the great whore' at 1 Nephi 14:12, and 'that great whore' at 22:14. (Hosea 1:2 matches a substring search for 'great whore' only because it reads 'great whoredom'.) The corpus gives no account of the parallel; its origin is outside this wiki's scope.
