The same covenant re-instantiated a generation later, now among the judges, lawyers, and high priests (3 Nephi 6:27-30). 6:28 makes the genealogy explicit in the text's own words — the cabal enters 'that covenant which was given by them of old, which covenant was given and administered by the devil' — tying it to the source Jacob named generations earlier (2 Nephi 9:9: 'that being who… stirreth up the children of men unto secret combinations of murder'). The shared term is the combine / combinations root plus the shared attribution to the devil as the covenant's administrator. The middle leg is Helaman 6:26-30, where the same 'author of all sin' 'doth hand down' the oaths 'from generation to generation'; 'given by them of old' (6:28) is 3 Nephi's compression of that genealogy. 2 Nephi 9:9 is Jacob's verse — cross-link jacob-lehison.md (the man Jacob, brother of Nephi; NOT the apostate king Jacob of 7:9-10, NOT Jacob the patriarch, NOT the city Jacob or Jacobugath of 9:8-9).
