The Abrahamic seed-blessing formula the Book of Mormon repeatedly cites is here recorded as Jehovah speaking it directly to Abraham. Shared distinctive frame: Abraham 2:11 'in thy seed after thee … shall all the families of the earth be blessed' (the ellipsis passing the verse's own parenthetical), against the Nephite form 'In thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed'. One substantive divergence: 'families' (Abraham 2:11) vs. 'kindreds' (the Nephite citations at 1 Nephi 15:18, 1 Nephi 22:9, 3 Nephi 20:25, 20:27; of these, 3 Nephi 20:25 alone opens 'And in thy seed' — the others carry 'In thy seed' exactly). The Nephite writers cite the covenant as already made 'unto Abraham'; this record purports to give the occasion of its speaking.
