The letter names the prophet and gives the reference in words rather than numerals: 'for Malachi says, last chapter, verses 5th and 6th'. The run continues to the end of the older verse with one divergence, the capitalisation of the divine name: 'the LORD' against 'the Lord' here. The same prophecy is quoted at D&C 110:14 in a different wording. The same sentence stands at 3 Nephi 25:5, reading 'the Lord' as the letter does.
