This record anchors on the AUDIENCE Moroni names: the commission is spoken 'unto his disciples who should tarry' (Mormon 9:22), a back-reference to the three Nephite disciples whom the risen Lord granted, at 3 Nephi 28:7, that 'ye shall never taste of death; but ye shall live to behold all the doings of the Father unto the children of men' -- the never-taste-death grant IS the tarrying. This is a paraphrase (named-referent allusion), grounded on referent-identity, not on a verbatim string: 3 Nephi 28:7 does NOT contain the word 'tarry'. Word distribution: the exact phrase 'who should tarry' occurs at Mormon 9:22, 4 Nephi 1:14 ('the three who should tarry'), and 4 Nephi 1:37 ('the three disciples of Jesus who should tarry'); the three-Nephites narrative's own 'tarry' first appears at 3 Nephi 28:12 ('the three who were to tarry' -- note the variant 'were to' vs 'should'); the tarrying disciples are also referenced at 4 Nephi 1:30 and Mormon 8:10. The far-end 3 Nephi 28:7 is chosen because 28:7 is the ORIGIN of the promise that made them tarry (28:12 merely records the physical departure).
